Beniamino Biondi has a new hit with "Teras Tiresia"
"Teras Tiresia" enchants the audience at the Pirandello Theatre: a new success for "Variations on the Myth"
The performance of "Teras Tiresia" took place on September 17, 2025, at the Pirandello Theater in Agrigento. This is the second performance of the "Variations on the Myth" project, conceived and directed by Beniamino Biondi, as part of the "Symphony of a Capital - Cultural Gardens" series.
The show, staged in one of Agrigento's culturally iconic locations, offered a profound reinterpretation of the mythical figure of Tiresias, in an original dramaturgical journey by Valeria La Bua, who also directed the production.
An attentive and engaged audience filled the stalls, with many spectators giving a long and warm applause at the end of the performance, rewarding an intense, multi-layered work capable of bringing myth, identity, and current events into dialogue.
The words of curator Beniamino Biondi:
"Teras Tiresias is a work that delves into the figure of Tiresias not as a simple oracle, but as an emblem of transition, transformation, and the conflict between the visible and the invisible. This second installment of 'Variations on the Myth' confirms the strength of a project that aims to restore theater to its original function as a collective ritual and a space for shared reflection. Once again, the audience responded with great emotional intensity, grasping the staging's rich meaning. I thank Valeria La Bua for the depth of her writing and for the poetic and visual care of this work."
Playwright Valeria La Bua's comment:
Writing and staging 'Teras Tiresias' was for me a journey into the most hidden recesses of identity, time, and language. Tiresias, a dual and prophetic being, represents all the questions we still carry within us today. The audience's warmth, their attention, and the dense silence during the performance were the most beautiful sign that myth, when presented with sincerity, is still a living mirror of our present. I thank Beniamino Biondi for giving space to this voice, and the Teatro Pirandello for welcoming it.
The words of actress Rita Fuocosalonia:
"Playing Tiresias was an act of deep immersion. He is a figure that requires courage, listening, and transformation, not only on stage, but within oneself. Every word and every gesture carried with it the weight of centuries and the lightness of the present. Feeling the audience so close, so engaged, almost suspended with us, was a rare emotion. I thank the playwright for entrusting me with this voice and the 'Variations on the Myth' project for giving substance to this journey."
Teras Tiresia thus confirms another significant step in the journey of "Variations on the Myth," a project that combines cultural rigor and theatrical research, intertwining classical heritage with contemporary sensibilities.
